Maykel Solas joined Ballet San Jose for the 2005/2006 Season. He was a Principal Dancer with both the Ballet Nacional del Peru and Ballet Municipal de Lima, where he danced all the principal roles in Giselle, Swan Lake, La Bayadere, Le Corsaire, The Nutcracker and other classical and neoclassical repertoire. He toured with the Ballet Municipal de Lima to Quito and Guayaquil in Ecuador and to the first Ballet Festival of Barranquilla, Colombia in 2005.
Born in Havana, Cuba, Tamara Mudarra joined Ballet San Jose in 2014. She began her career as a soloist with Laura Alonso’s Pro Danza until she signed on as principal with the National Ballet of Ecuador and subsequently with the National Ballet of Panama. Her major roles as Snow Queen and Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker, Kitri and Mercedes in Don Quixote, Aurora and Lilac Fairy in The Sleeping Beauty have all been met with critical acclaim. A winner of International Ballet Competition of Havana, and the winner at the 2011 Stars of the 21st Century International Ballet Competition.
Born in Van Nuys, California, Peter Hershey began his formal ballet training at the Seiskaya Ballet Academy in St. James, New York at age eleven. He went on to attend high school at the Nassau B.O.C.E.S. Cultural. A member of Ballet San Jose since 2001, Peter is probably best known for dancing the role of Johnny in Dennis Nahat’s Blue Suede Shoes
Jazon Escultura graduated from San Jose State University in 2006 with a B.A. in dance. At SJSU, Mr. Escultura trained in Modern, Ballet, Hip Hop, Tap, and was honored to study Jazz technique with fellow South Bay Dance Center teacher Jill Yager-Rumpf. While at SJSU, Mr. Escultura was a member of the University Dance Theater, a modern dance company directed by Gary Masters in which he performed a solo from “The Unsung” by Jose Limon. While with UDT, Mr. Escultura traveled to Sacramento and San Francisco to dance premiere works at the American College Dance Festival.
From Anchorage, Alaska, Michael was trained by world renowned instructors Jian Min Hao, Andrei Bossov, Suzanne Farrell, and Gennady Seluitsky, and was the first American male accepted to the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet’s full program, in St. Petersburg, Russia. He has performed and choreographed for Ballet Tucson, Ballet Idaho,Peninsula Ballet Theatre and Bay Pointe Ballet dancing roles including Von Rothbart in Swan Lake, Blue Boy in Frederick Ashton’s Les Patineurs, Antony Tudor’s Continuo, and Nutcracker prince.
A Bay Area native who started her dance training at the tender age of 3. While tap dance is her passion, she is also trained in ballet, jazz, lyrical, pointe, and hip-hop. Most of her dance training took place at Schumacher’s School of Dance in South San Francisco under the direction of Dolly Schumacher James, Julie Wroten and Wendy James. Dara is a graduate of San Jose State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Advertising and a minor in Psychology. Dara has been teaching recreational and competitive tap classes throughout the bay area for over five years
